Canadian Obstetric Survey System (CanOSS)
The Canadian Obstetric Survey System (CanOSS) is aimed at reducing severe adverse pregnancy events in Canada, through a phased approach. The system will collect prospective data at regional-, provincial- and national levels, to improve the quality of maternal care.Website: https://canoss.ca/
Mission statement
To provide clinical, systemic, and contextual evidence needed to strengthen pregnancy and post-pregnancy maternal health outcomes in Canada.
Aims and scope
- To examine clinical, social, and structural factors to be addressed to reduce severe adverse pregnancy events in the future.
- To bring together diverse voices and foster an environment for continuous learning promoting a just and safe culture.
- To ensure that insights gathered create system-wide improvements with a focus on equity-informed approaches.
Current studies
- CanOSS-Hamilton: A pilot project aimed at understanding reasons behind high rates of peripartum complications in individuals with a prior caesarean birth in the Hamilton region (Southern Ontario).
- CanOSS-Ontario: A province-wide initiative aimed at exploring and addressing the clinical, socio-cultural and contextual factors responsible for severe peripartum haemorrhage in Ontario.
- CanOSS-Cardiovascular: A research study involving cardio-obstetrics centres across Canada, aimed at understanding factors contributing to severe morbidity and mortality from cardiovascular conditions during and after pregnancy
